What is the Subaru AWD?

The Subaru AWD that gives you driving pleasure and safety

Why should a full-time AWD system be necessary for on-road driving?

Let's take a look at the alternatives. With rear wheel drive only (FR), traction comes from the rear wheels. With front wheel drive (FF), it comes from the front wheels. But with AWD, traction is obtained from all of the wheels.

So now, let's consider what happens when road conditions take a turn for the worse due to rain, snow, ice and so on.

Compared to FF or FR, where engine power is distributed to just two wheels, AWD makes the most of tyre grip by distributing power to all four wheels, to provide more stable traction and driving performance under all road conditions.

Add it all up and the AWD system is obviously the better choice. At Subaru we firmly believe this to be true, which is why we have championed this concept from day one.
