What is the Subaru AWD?

Centre differential type AWD with Viscous LSD

This system for manual transmission vehicles combines a centre differential with bevel gears and a viscous coupling type limited slip differential (LSD).

Normally, the centre differential distributes the torque at a ratio of 50:50 to the front and rear wheels for extremely stable driving and maximum traction.

Where the balance of traction is lost when front or rear wheels slip, viscous LSD automatically redistributes torque to maximise grip, so full traction and driveability are always available.
